SOIL
PREPARATION
An important step in the success of your
lawn is the proper soil preparation. Money spent at this time will yield
many years of trouble-free low-cost maintenance. The goal is to provide a
base in which grass roots can vigorously establish and grow.
 | Rototill the soil to a depth of two to four
inches. |
 | Rake the soil removing rocks, roots, and
other debris. Leave the soil loose, but level. |
 | Keep the finished grade 1" below sidewalks. |
 | Eliminate drainage problems by having soil
slope away from foundations. |
 | Fertilizer - For best results, a seed
starter fertilizer, such as 11-23-10 or 10-18-10, should be applied to soil
prior to laying sod. |
